- Final Eight Announced - Grampian Chef of the Year 2010
The heats for this year’s competition took place on the 4th of May at Aberdeen College. Sixteen of Aberdeen’s top chefs took part in a hard fought elimination round to identify the best eight chefs who will be invited to cook at the final on Monday the 24th of May.
Competition organisers Hospitality Training was delighted with the quality of dishes cooked on the day. Karen Black, General Manager said, “ it was very encouraging to see the chefs use locally sourced ingredients, and present dishes that were both imaginative and delicious”
The panel of judges were George McIvor – The Full Range Ltd, David Mutter – Darroch Learg Hotel, Jeff Purves – Banchory Lodge Hotel, and Simon Gosling – Expiditer Catering Consultancy.
George McIvor, Chairman of the panel said, “ At the inception of this competition in 1996 we would have been lucky to have 16 entries of this quality across all four categories of this competition. How times have changed! I also think it is especially positive that three of our cooks today are ladies”
There will be four categories contested at the final on May 24th, Grampian Chef of the Year, Grampian Contract Chef of the Year, Grampian Seafood Chef of the Year, and Grampian Young Chef of the Year. The finals will be followed by an awards dinner at the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa.
