• Training for Work

Training for Work provides training support for people who are unemployed and actively looking for work. The programme - run by Scottish Enterprise - allows people to go on company placements and tap into formal training. In many cases, the trainees move into a full-time job.

Who can take part?
Training for Work is open to adults who are 25 and over, who have been unemployed for at least 6 months within the previous 52 weeks. However, there are exceptions to this. Ask your local Jobcentre for details. Any company can take part.

What does it offer?
Trainees receive help from a network of training providers. A wide variety of skills and occupations is catered for. The programme is backed by local employers who provide on-the-job training.

Participants will be paid a "training allowance" - this is equivalent to their benefits plus £10 a week. If the trainee gets a job out of the scheme they'll be paid the rate for the job.

The progamme helps people find and get jobs and even start up their own businesses - with a range of support on offer.

How do I get involved?
If you are a potential trainee, contact your local Jobcentre. Just enter your town or city on the Jobcentre Plus website to find your nearest centre. You can also search for phone numbers by using the directory site Yell.com.

If your company wants to offer places for trainees, contact Hospitality Training or the Business Gateway - 0845 609 6611. Staff will help you get involved.

Anything else?
The level of training offered will depend on the trainee's background and work history. Again, your local Jobcentre can give full details about what is available locally.
