First Aid Awareness
Accidents, injuries and illnesses can happen at any time, and knowing basic first aid skills and procedures can save lives or prevent conditions from worsening until medical help arrives.
This course is designed to introduce you to first aid at work.
In this course we will cover:
- Legal basis of first aid in the workplace
- Who is responsible for first aid at work
- What should be in a first aid box
- How to perform the primary and secondary survey
- When and how to place a casualty in the recovery
position
- How to perform CPR on adults, children and babies
- Types of injury and illness you are likely to encounter and how to treat them
- Different types of wounds and bleeding and how to treat them
- The correct procedure for applying a bandage
- How to identify and treat a range of common injuries, including choking, eye injuries, electric shocks, fractures, sprains and strains, dislocations, spinal injuries, burns and scalds, and head injuries
- How to identify and treat a range of common causes of ill health, such as heart attacks, strokes, epilepsy, diabetes, asthma, allergic reactions and anaphylaxis, hyperventilation, poisoning and drowning
- First Aid during COVID-19, including amendments to first aid procedures and the importance of handwashing and PPE.
