This is ideal for young Chef's looking to start a career in catering. The SVQ offers the trainee the opportunity to learn and understand the requirements for Preparation and Cooking of Foods.
The importance of good Hygiene practices, Health and Safety, correct use of knives and also learning to work in a production area.
Trainees are given full support throughout their training from Hospitality Training and we will provide them with a suitable text book.
Health and Safety is an important part of any industry these days and even more so in a working kitchen where there are hot plates, gas cookers and knives, plus much more potential hazards.
Chefs will be taught how to use the equipment correctly and safely in order that they protect themselves and each other.
The SCQF Level 5 provides a selection of units which the Head Chef can choose for you in order that what you learn is in keeping with what your establishment requires.
On completion of the SCQF Level 5 the Chef would then have an option to continue on to the next Level where they can then progress to producing more complex dishes.

Hospitality Services
The Hospitality Service qualification has been introduced for trainees who cover a range of departments within the industry, including those working in reception and housekeeping.
Ideal for those wanting to work their way up to a trainee manager role, it gives an insight into a variety of departments within a hotel.
Working together with your team members and providing good customer service is an important part of hospitality in any establishment. Customer Care skills are covered in this qualification.
Food Hygiene is covered and there are several units available such as preparing and cooking fish, meat and poultry and serving food and alcoholic drinks at the table. The units chosen will depend on the type of establishment.
Working in the hospitality industry can be stressful at times, and the demand for food will increase at differing times of the day. This qualification will help the team develop to ensure that they become efficient and can deal with the pressures of the day-to-day requirements ensuring that customers leave having received a good service.
The qualification also has a focus on Health and Safety issues.

Food and Beverage
Food and Beverage Service is at the front of the hospitality operation and it is important that guests receive the good service they are entitled to.
The Food and Beverage Service VQ is for operational team members who's daily task is to serve guests.
The qualification focuses on the Health and Safety aspect of the working environment, which has become more and more important over the years. There are also units on creating and maintaining good working relations and customer care.
Being prepared for your daily tasks and leaving your work environment how you find it at the end of the day makes for a successful working team.
There are various units you can then choose to focus on and these will be dependent on your work environment. These include providing a table service, providing a carvery/buffet and silver service. They also include providing and serving bottled wines and hot drinks.
The qualification will also focus on dealing with payments and maintaining the payment point if this is part of your normal duties.

Beverage Service
A good beverage service can be the difference between guests spending lots of money or very little.
Bars can become very dirty and smelly within a short space of time if not maintained properly. Drinks can be spilled and lead to sticky floors, therefore it is important that the workplace is kept tidy and maintained ready for the next days business.
Beverage Service can be challenging and it is important that the customers get an experience to encourage them to come back.
This qualification covers Health and Safety in the work environment. This is important in the bar area, as you will be using cleaning materials for the bar surfaces and floor, but also cleaning fluids for the beer lines.
Good working relations with customers and team members is important and customer care skills are covered within the qualification.
The main part of the qualification covers the preparation and service of drinks. This includes draught, free pouring, optics, bottled drinks and soft drinks.
On completion of this qualification you will have the ability to open and close down a bar and ensure that this is done efficiently and safely.
